About B.J. Smith Elementary
B.J. Smith Elementary has been serving students since opening its doors in 1998. Our campus is named after a former member of Mesquite ISD’s Board of Trustees who served in his position for nine years. Mr. Smith is also a former mayor of the city of Mesquite who was passionate about promoting positive relationships between the district, the city, and the community.
Today, the campus serves approximately 500 students. Smith Elementary is proudly part of the Berry Middle School and John Horn High School feeder pattern.

Mrs. Stacy Bennett is going into her 11th year of education and 3rd year with Mesquite ISD. She has served as an assistant principal 2 years in Mesquite at Tisinger Elementary and 2 years prior as an Assistant Principal at Ferris Junior High in Ferris ISD. Before this, she served as a Science teacher lead at Winfree Academy in Grand Prairie, TX.
Mrs. Bennett is passionate about providing students with tools they need to be successful academically, socially and emotionally. Our students are our future and deserve the greatest educational experience in a safe and loving environment as they grow to make contributions in our world.
As a mother of 3, she is continuously seeking to lead in a way that would grant all students great opportunities & memorable experiences just as she would hope for own children. She hopes that students learn that excellence doesn’t have to be a destination but striving for it is a valuable journey.
