B.J. Smith Elementary has been serving students since opening its doors in 1998. Our campus is named after a former member of Mesquite ISD’s Board of Trustees who served in his position for nine years. Mr. Smith is also a former mayor of the city of Mesquite who was passionate about promoting positive relationships between the district, the city, and the community. 

Today, the campus serves approximately 580 students and employs 70 staff members. We are a community school that embraces family engagement to create great experiences for our students. We are committed to our campus mission to empower students to develop ownership of their learning and promote self worth by modeling positive relationships that foster unity and excellence to prepare them for real world experience. We are a place where students can love, grow and achieve.
